Winter Watch

Things are quiet when its cold although one day when it warmed up to about 50 degrees I had a swarm in front of the hive with bees coming and going. Even when its cold, I still see an occasional bee venture out and fly somewhere.
I just put on a entrance mouse guard to both keep out varmints and keep some wind out. Wondering if I should be putting out pollen for just in case food or not.

  1. To help my bees out, I wrapped the hives in tar paper, top to bottom with one layer, leaving an opening for entry at bottom and ventilation at rear top. On a clear day you can really feel the heat soaking up from the sun. I think that this is helping my 2 hives deal with this severe winter a bit better. Putting my ear to the hives I can hear them buzzing away like little engines. A few dead ones lay on the snow each day. The weather testers for the hive. Good Luck, Everyone!!! Gary G.
